    Karen-

It’s amazing how moments in time can seem like lifetimes ago and then only to seem like yesterday. Your love for Mark has endured and our lives are better from him being in them.

    Angie-

When we were all so young we had no idea how quickly time would pass and how soon some would leave for their next adventure.
Mark was a true artist and friend to us all. Thank you always for reading my Farm Stories!!!

I just saw a picture of Viola on Angie’s Facebook page and it made me think of Mark. I don’t remember much about him as he moved away when I was very young. I rented a small house from Viola about 20 years ago and there was a storage shed next to the house with some of Viola’s stuff in it. I remember her showing me some of Mark’s art that was in the shed one day. Such talent.

    Joni-

Thank you so much for sharing your memories! I remember that storage shed and his little dog who would stand out beside it watching while Mark and I would wash our cars. If memory serves I believe his grandmother lived in a little house behind his and Viola’s.
Mark’s talent seemed so effortless. I loved watching him draw and paint from start to finish. Magic!!!

I’m so sorry that your friend is gone. I think one of the things that has angered me the most over the past few weeks has been the fevered declarations of what “brave” and “courageous” are. I think that courage is living life on one’s own beautiful terms and I am glad you found yours.

    Kristi-

It’s hard to understand so many who feel the need to push others down in order to make a point or to simply lift themselves up. Everyone at some time has had to find their way and with it the courage to push forward. Everyone deserves to be celebrated when they have come out on the other side and have helped make a positive change for themselves and others. Being authentic, kind, loving and as you say living life in their own beautiful way. Thank you for reading and for adding your voice. It truly means so much to me.

A gorgeous way to wake up Eddie, reading your beautiful words with this tribute to Mark. One can not help but go back to their own childhood and remember memories that are similar. The joy of a new found friend and slowly letting the friendship blossom is magical. Your writings continue to inspire and have become richer in the way you weave us through your life story. Bravo to you my friend.

Amazing how so many of us share a familiar pattern in our early life. It’s comforting to know so many of us who feel this way are out there.
As always your reading, support and voice mean so much to me!!!

Beautifully written and more insight into you and your life’s experiences. Your friend is smiling down on you for these wonderful memories brought to light for all that didn’t know him. I hadn’t remembered hearing that your Dad said he “Knew what you were. And you would never be happy being you.” that you wrote in this blog. Little did he know the future and just how wonderfully happy you would become……even through it has been a long hard road for you because of people like him. So sad he missed out on a relationship he could have/should have cherished with you and you with him. Keep on writing my friend. Love the AM’s I get up and see you have a new blog. I LOVE YOU!!! XOXO <3

Some simply cannot handle that which does not reflect them and their ideals. It’s unfortunate you have to push through all of that to find those who matter and make a difference.
Thank you for your support, love and voice!!!

In sixth grade we did a play called Scarecrow Dick. Mark and I were assigned to make the paper mache’ tree. I was useless and Mark showed me skillfully how to cute chicken wire and smooth the mache’ around it. When I asked him he told me he’d never done it before. He had this gift of making anything look effortless when it came to creating. He was such a natural with his talent.

Oh Eddie, I have read most of your Farm stories , this one though struck a cord. Brings back so many memories of Mark. He truly was remarkable. Just a great hanging out friend. Couple of my greatest times was going to the movie Mahogany. True Diana Ross fan. He even went with me to a family Christmas party and never hesitated to play Christmas carols on the piano for a bunch of people he didn’t even know. I still have letters he wrote after he went off to IU. Time passes and we loose touch, but the warmth in our heart carries us through to our next chapter.of life.. Thank you for this reminder of how special he was. And thank you for being you. ..xoxo

A nice blog and a great picture of Mark. He was one of my early Spurgeon buddies and were always friiends. As I have many, lost touch with him after high school/college. He and I used to have drawing competition in study hall. As you might suspect, I always lost!

Eddie,
I am so glad that you wrote this tribute to Mark. Someone (maybe you? or maybe Angie?) told me that his name is on a wall in MoMA. He was taken from us too young, and I miss him, too. He was a wonderful guy and a good friend. I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers him fondly. I go out to Jimmie Skinner’s gravesite and talk to him, and sometimes I talk to Mark, too.
Love you bunches,
CindyKay

I’ll have to look into his name on museum wall would love too see!!!
Loved Jimmie! Was such a sweet boy who always talked about being a pilot. Love that you visit him and Mark. I know always have a chat with Nyla when I’m in Oakland City and visit my grandparents. I’ll have to try and find Mark and Jimmie.
Thank you for your precious words and heart!!!
